I just had an incredible weekend. I got to hang out with some of my favorite girls, eat some amazing food and watch an AMAZING Broadway musical, WICKED. WICKED tells the story of the witches of the Wizard of Oz, before, during and after they became said "witches" and weaves their story into the original story of the Wizard of Oz. For anyone who hasn't seen the show and gets the opportunity...GO!! You will not be disappointed in the least. I promise!
Friday night, my old buddy Tara (who I haven't got to hang out with in over a year), came to the house and we went to pick up Claudine (Charity needed the car for work...lol). Tara got to come and use Charity's ticket, because Charity ended up having to work. Claudine very generously offered the ticket to Tara, and luckily Tara was able to find a sitter and make it. They both stayed at my house Friday night so we could leave in the morning to meet up with the rest of the girls for lunch in San Antonio. We didn't get back to my house until about 9:30, so we just watched a movie (The A-Team, since Tara hadn't seen it...can you say half-naked and buff Bradley Cooper? lol) and went to bed.
We were supposed to grab Wendy and head out, but she worked the night before and had a late call, so she ended up meeting us later, at the show. So off we went to Fair Oaks and Heather's place to meet up with Heather, Tammy and Revonda then head to lunch. We had Pappasito's for lunch, which was really good, then headed downtown to the Majestic Theatre. After a couple of hiccups in finding parking, we met up with Heather's mom at the Gunter then went to the theatre and met Wendy. We're all there, tickets in hand and head in to the show.
WICKED was just amazing. The music was fabulous, the costumes and effects were crazy awesome, and the story was surprising and thought-provoking. A lot of the story focuses on the bonds of friendship between GAlinda (later Glinda) and Elphaba (later the Wicked Witch of the West). There are interwoven stories that include a love story, animal rights, human rights, racism and even some political inferences about the "leadership" provided by the Wizard. There is a basic human element of the story that shows the ease of doing what is popular versus doing what is right. It was just all in all a GREAT show. I feel so blessed to have been able to go, and to share it with such great friends made it even better. There were a few who even shed tears, but I will not name names...LOL
After the show, it was back to Heather's for the night. But first, we stopped at the Grill at Leon Springs for dinner. OMG...WOW...some of the best prepared and presented food I've had, with great service and quite affordable. I was very impressed with it, and will definitely go back whenever I'm through that way again. Now on VERY full tummies, it's back to Heather's, into the jammies and up to the multi-media room to watch a movie on the BIG SCREEN...and I do mean BIG SCREEN!!! We watched Burlesque and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it, after hearing so many bad reviews. It was very entertaining!! After the movie, it was off to bed...what a day!!
The next morning, our hostess with the mostest cooked us up some AWESOME breakfast. We ate, got in some last minute chatting time, got dressed, said goodbye and we all headed home. On the way home, Wendy, Claudine and I stopped for caffeine at a convenience store. Somewhere during that stop, we decided it was still early and since Claudine had said on the trip up that she had never been to Gruene, I suggested we go hang out there for a bit. So Wendy navigated us over to Gruene and we got out to walk around and see some sites. Claudine was overwhelmed by all the signs that said Antique, and we tried to get in as many shops as we could. There was a really awesome toy store that I had never seen before called Got Toys? that we spent forever in!!
After a few hours of walking around, my feet were hurting (I had to borrow Wendy's tennis shoes that day since I only had my boots, and she's a half size smaller than me. ugh...lol) and we went to have lunch at Adobe Verde. I know, mexican food AGAIN, but it was really good, too. After lunch, it was back to the truck and back on the road to home again. We all got back here, then Claudine and I got in my truck and I took her back to meet Charity halfway and get her home.
I DID more in this one weekend than I have done in quite a while, and it was all great!! I got home and felt "full" in so many ways. So thanks to everyone who shared this with me, with a special thanks to Heather for playing hostess and for arranging the tickets and getting them ordered and all in a row!! I am just feeling so blessed and content right now....please don't anybody screw it up for me for a few days!! Please!! :-D

That's what SHE said...
Actually, it's what we (women) have all said a million times in our lives. What's wrong with me? Is it my face? My ass? Too fat? Too thin? Too dumb? Too smart? All of these, along with a million other questions relating to our own self-doubt and insecurities. These questions get asked when "the one" doesn't ask us out when we wish they would. Or when we think they SHOULD. They get asked when the cheating happens. They get asked when the break up happens. They get asked when we don't get the job we want, or when we lose the job we have. They get asked when just about anything negative happens in our lives.
So honestly, where does all this self-blame come from?? Why do we torture ourselves with it on every possible occasion?? Maybe he didn't ask you out because he's in love with someone else and hasn't told them yet. The cheating?? That should NEVER involve self-blame!! How can someone else's defective behavior possibly be your fault? Right? But we do it anyway...UGH!!
Our society lives and breathes blame. Whose fault is it that we have a huge federal deficit that we can never possibly get under control? Does it really matter? Quit pointing fingers and try to fix it!! Whose fault is it that our health care system is so incredibly fucked up? Who cares!! It's fucked up!! Find a way to make it better!! Whose fault is it that our justice system is so fucked up?? Okay well, that's all on the lawyers (hehehehe), but still...who cares? Find a way to fix it!!
I can very objectively say this about issues concerning the country, the state, the county, the city, the neighborhood, and anyone and everyone else except myself. Why can I not give my own issues the same "pass" that I give everyone else's issues? I have no idea. Call it part of the female genetic make-up. Call it my upbringing. Maybe it's society's fault...they give us such high standards to aspire to physically...bastards!!
Well hell...there I go again, looking for someone to blame, huh? ;-)
STOP THE MADNESS, MY FRIENDS....STOP THE MADNESS!!
